Samsung Calendar for Galaxy Tab: Comprehensive Review

Samsung Calendar is a free Get Things Done (GTD) app developed by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. It comes preinstalled on Samsung devices and can also be downloaded from the Galaxy Store. However, it may not be available on all Samsung devices, so if yours isn’t supported, do let us know.

Creating new events in Samsung Calendar is intuitive and straightforward. You can easily select the exact date and time for your event, and even color-code it. For some calendars, you can add an emoji to personalize your event. You can also include all the important details, but the app could benefit from some basic formatting options to better structure your notes. Additionally, Samsung Calendar limits the types of attachments you can add and where they come from. Images can only be attached from the Gallery, and PDFs from Samsung Notes. Moreover, you’re restricted to one attachment per event, and certain calendars don’t allow attachments at all, which can be frustrating.

Events in Samsung Calendar have both a start and end date and time, and you can set multiple alerts leading up to the event, ensuring you won’t miss it. For repeating events, you have all the standard options, including setting when the repeats should end. You can even schedule tasks to repeat a specific number of times.

You can add multiple calendars to Samsung Calendar through your Samsung account, and share them with other Samsung users. This allows you to organize calendars for different aspects of your life, such as work, education, and vacations. You can invite up to 99 people per calendar—if you need more than that, you might be using the wrong app.

Samsung Calendar supports third-party accounts from Google Calendar and Microsoft Exchange, but that’s about it. Although this isn’t a lot, at least the integration is seamless. Any changes you make to your Google account via Samsung Calendar will reflect in Google Calendar and vice versa. You can also differentiate your calendars with different colors and hide certain ones when you need to focus.

Navigating Samsung Calendar is easy with its left sidebar, offering various views of your calendar. The month view is our favorite, especially since you can add handwritten annotations to it. We hope Samsung extends this handwriting feature to all views, except for the year view, of course.

All-day events are permanently highlighted in Samsung Calendar, but for shorter events, you can remove the highlight if you prefer. You also get to adjust the brightness of your highlights. This feature isn’t limited to just the month view; it’s available in week and day views as well. Another useful feature is the ability to adjust the font size for your events across all views.

Samsung Calendar integrates with Samsung Reminders, displaying your date-based to-dos alongside your events. Reminders are marked with a bell icon, distinguishing them from events, and completed reminders are struck out, which is a feature we absolutely love! This integration helps prevent scheduling conflicts.

We also appreciate the weather integration, which provides a seven-day forecast. It’s handy to know what the weather will be like when planning an event, though the weather information is a bit small and easy to miss.

Samsung Calendar’s search function is robust, allowing you to search for events and reminders. You can even use stickers and colors to find events, making color-coding even more useful. Plus, you can edit events directly from the search results, which is fantastic. However, the app doesn’t search through annotations, which is a bit disappointing.

One of the standout features of Samsung Calendar is its recycle bin, where you can restore events you accidentally deleted—including those from Google Calendar. You have 30 days to recover deleted items before they’re gone for good.

Samsung’s widgets are excellent, especially compared to the more basic widgets from Apple. The countdown widget is our favorite, and the month widget is great for viewing your schedule at a glance without opening the app. We love these widgets so much that we’re planning a dedicated video to cover them.

Overall, Samsung Calendar is a solid calendar app with exciting widgets and a handy handwriting feature for the month view. However, it’s limited to Samsung devices, which means you’re locked into the Samsung ecosystem. We also couldn’t find holiday calendars, which is a significant omission for a calendar app.
