Updates for Nebo, Noteshelf & OneNote

The most exciting update on this list comes from Nebo. They’ve added two new pens to the app’s pen tools. Previously, we only had the Felt pen, but now we have a fountain pen and a brush pen. The fountain pen might feel familiar, as other apps often call it a calligraphy pen, while the Felt pen in Nebo is closer to what other apps typically label as a fountain pen. It’s a bit confusing, so perhaps the developers could consider renaming these tools. Regardless of the names, it’s great to have more options, and we love that!

The brush pen is particularly unique—something we haven’t seen in any other note-taking app. While all the pens feel similar in use, they each offer a different visual style, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your needs.

Nebo also now supports a wider range of symbols, including useful bullets for unnumbered lists. We’re excited for the day when the app can recognize any symbol you throw at it.

Another great feature is the ability to teach the app new words without leaving your notebook. Simply long-press the new word and select “Learn.” This allows you to add new words without disrupting your workflow. If the app converts the word incorrectly, you can quickly correct it with your keyboard before saving it, which is much better than having to close the notebook to update your dictionary.

Nebo 3.4 has brought some fantastic updates that we’re eager to start using. Now, let’s move on to Noteshelf to see what’s new there.

In Noteshelf, you can now edit shapes after drawing them, though this only works for new shapes you create in the app. Unfortunately, older shapes remain uneditable, which we found interesting. Overall, though, this is a great feature. Being able to edit shapes in a note-taking app is important, and we hope future updates will allow us to autofill shapes as well.

OneNote has finally updated its outdated widgets from iPadOS 14, introducing three new ones: one small widget and two larger ones. The first two widgets display your recent notes, though they don’t offer much in terms of editing. Hopefully, in the future, we’ll be able to select specific notebooks or sections to display on our widgets.

The other large widget not only shows your recent notes but also includes quick capture options for quickly jotting down text, sketching, or taking photos. These are all very useful shortcuts to help you get started in the app quickly.
