**Black Myth: Wukong Soars on Steam, Xbox Launch Delayed**

Black Myth: Wukong, developed by the Chinese studio Game Science, recently launched and quickly rose to the top of Steam’s charts, becoming one of the most played games ever on the platform. The action-RPG is currently available on PC and PlayStation but has yet to be released on Xbox. Microsoft hasn’t officially explained the delay, but reports suggest it’s due to a technical issue.

According to a report by Forbes, the delay isn’t due to an exclusivity deal between Sony and Game Science. Instead, the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong has been held up by technical challenges, though the exact nature of the problem hasn’t been specified. It’s possible that optimizing the game for both the powerful Xbox Series X and the less capable Xbox Series S is causing the delay.

Earlier this year, Game Science addressed the issue on their website, explaining that while PC and PS5 players would have access to the game starting August 20, 2024, they were still working on optimizing the Xbox version to meet their quality standards. They apologized for the delay and assured Xbox users that they were working to reduce the wait time, with the release date to be announced once the game meets those standards.

Built using Unreal Engine 5, Black Myth: Wukong is a visually intensive game, which might present challenges for the Xbox Series S. The console’s lower specs have previously been a roadblock for other games, such as Baldur’s Gate 3, which was delayed on Xbox due to issues with the split-screen co-op feature on the Series S. The game eventually launched without that feature.

Microsoft enforces feature parity between the Series X and Series S, meaning games must release on both consoles with the same features. This policy likely contributes to the delay for the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong.

Since its launch on August 20, 2024, for PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store) and PS5, Black Myth: Wukong has become the second most-played game on Steam, with over 2 million concurrent players, second only to PUBG: Battlegrounds.
