Noteful’s latest update may be small, but it’s definitely exciting. The app now includes a zoom tool with an impressive zoom range, which isn’t surprising given how well Noteful handles page zooming. For those who have been eagerly awaiting this feature, it’s finally here!
Noteful’s commitment to minimalism continues to shine. The app features auto-advance without a dedicated setting to disable it. However, you can effectively turn it off by reducing the auto-advance section until it’s barely noticeable. After all, how often do you write right at the edge of the screen?
You can use navigation arrows to move the zoom window manually or place it wherever you need it. You can also add a page margin to set the starting point for auto-advance. Additionally, writing tools can now be added to the zoom window toolbar, and you have the option to place these tools on either the left or right side of the screen.
The zoom feature is known to improve handwriting for many users, and in Noteful, it could significantly enhance the app’s palm rejection—something the existing Palm Rejection setting hasn’t fully resolved to our liking. We couldn’t be more excited about this update.
In contrast, Nebo 3.5 has been out for a while, bringing a number of welcome improvements. The most exciting addition for us is the true dark mode, a feature not many note-taking apps offer. When you switch to dark mode, the colors and page backgrounds in your notes adjust accordingly, though your PDFs remain unchanged, which makes sense. After all, who would want to alter their PDFs?
For the first time, Nebo now offers some page customization options, starting with eight page backgrounds. While it’s not a major update, it’s a promising step toward more customization options in the future.
Nebo 3.5 also introduced some name changes for the app’s pages. What used to be called regular Nebo pages (that convert your handwriting) are now “Documents.” The infinite freeform pages are now referred to as “Notes.” The feature previously known as Publishing is now called “Create link,” which allows you to generate links to share your files online. The user interface for this function has been streamlined and made more user-friendly, making it easier to control access to your notes.
However, the knowledge base bar keeps appearing below the toolbars, which can be distracting. It would be great to have the option to dismiss or close it. If the developers want to keep it easily accessible in the workspace, moving it to the three-dot menu after preferences or under settings on the homepage would be a better approach.
